1. The Order of Being Seen
The PARC operates on a first-come, first-served basis. However, in situations where a critical patient arrives, our triage team may determine they need to be seen ahead of others. This ensures that those in the most urgent need receive timely care.
Please rest assured that we prioritize everyone's well-being and strive to provide the best care as quickly as possible. On most shifts, we have one or two ER vets taking care of our ER patients. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to serve everyone's needs efficiently.
If you or your pet need water, please see our team members at the front desk. We have more comfortable seating in the upper lobby and an upper outside balcony if you’d like some fresh air. Please let a team member know if you choose to wait somewhere else so we can find you when it’s your turn.
NOTE: The PARC also has pre-scheduled appointments for nonemergent care seven days a week. In these cases, a patient with a scheduled appointment may arrive after you but be taken to a room ahead of your pet.
2. Triage
Upon arrival, your pet will be assessed (triaged) by a vet tech unless its condition is obviously stable.
Patients with life-threatening conditions are prioritized for immediate care, while those with less urgent needs may be attended to in order of arrival after the most critical cases have been stabilized.
If your pet’s condition changes during your wait in the lobby, please check back in at the front desk and share your concern with one of our team members.
3. Physical Exam With ER Vet
Once you are escorted into an exam room, your pet will be evaluated by an ER veterinarian. Our doctor will do a physical examination to identify any specific areas of concern. They will communicate with you every step of the way, explaining their findings and proposed course of action.
During some extremely busy shifts, and depending on your pet's condition, we may suggest diagnostic tests before the veterinarian sees your pet. We will make these adjustments to the regular order to be respectful of your time here and help expedite getting your pet the care they need.
4. Diagnostics Give us a Window Into a Pet’s Body
As pet parents, we often want immediate relief for our best friends when they're unwell, but using diagnostics like blood work or radiographs can make a huge difference. While treating symptoms may provide temporary relief, diagnostics allow us a window into the body and give our veterinarians the information they need to uncover the root cause of your pet's ailment.
Just as with human medicine, diagnostics provide crucial insights into your pet's internal health, enabling us to tailor treatment plans specifically to address the underlying issue. By investing in diagnostics, we not only alleviate symptoms but also pave the way for more effective, targeted treatments, ultimately promoting a higher quality of life for your beloved pet.
5. Review of Fees
Following the physical examination, the ER veterinarian will discuss diagnostic tests and/or treatment options tailored to your pet's needs. This is also an opportunity for a transparent discussion about the associated costs. While financial considerations can be daunting during such stressful times, our staff will work with you to outline a plan that prioritizes your pet's well-being while respecting your financial constraints.
6. Payment Collected Ahead of Time
To streamline the process and ensure efficient care, payment for services will be collected upfront. This allows our team to focus on providing the necessary medical attention to your pet without any delays or interruptions and allows you to be fully in the loop and authorize what we do each step of the way. Our team will collect payment as we go in two steps:
Payment #1 includes:
- Emergency fee
- Any fees associated with treatments performed to stabilize your pet or ease their pain
- Diagnostic tests that you approve
Payment #2 includes:
- Any fees associated with the treatment plan you approve
- Take-home prescriptions
7. Payment Plan Options With CareCredit
In times of unexpected pet emergencies, the financial burden can add to the stress of the situation. However, one valuable resource available to you is CareCredit, a credit card designed specifically for healthcare expenses, including veterinary care.
CareCredit offers a convenient solution by providing a line of credit that can be used to cover unexpected veterinary costs, from emergency surgeries to diagnostic procedures and medications. With CareCredit, you can access immediate funds to ensure your pet receives the prompt care they need without having to delay treatment due to financial constraints.
We offer six months of no interest on purchases of $200 and more. Please let one of our team members know if you are interested in applying for CareCredit. We can help make that happen.
8. Will They Go Home or Stay With Us?
When facing a pet emergency, it's natural to wonder whether your pet can go home with you or if they would benefit from 24-hour care at The PARC. The decision hinges on the severity and nature of your pet's condition.
Outpatient care, which includes medications and at-home instructions, may suffice for less critical cases, allowing your pet to return home under your care.
For more severe conditions, we will recommend your pet stay with us for IV fluids and medications, treatment and round-the-clock care (we have a doctor and technicians here 24/7). In our hospital, our skilled vet team can closely monitor your pet's condition and provide immediate intervention in case of any complications. While it may be distressing to leave your pet here, it often expedites the treatment and healing process, allowing your pet to quickly return to you happy and healthy."
