Janel Hawkins, DVM
Dr. Janel Hawkins grew up on a dairy farm in upstate New York and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian as a child. She feels that coming to The PARC is the ultimate fulfillment of that dream, where doctors and staff treat every pet as if it were their own.
Dr. Hawkins earned her Doctor in Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts. She worked in a small mixed animal practice in Millsap, Texas, but then found her true calling in emergency and critical care while practicing at Airport Freeway Animal Emergency Hospital in Euless.
A member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Tarrant County Veterinary Medical Association and Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, Dr. Hawkins also travels to Honduras annually with Orphan Outreach, leaving bits of her heart behind each time. She and her fiancé, Dr. Brandon Button, have a newborn son, Dutch, as well as a menagerie of animals: a 4-year-old “puppy,” Raven, three bossy cats, a hedgehog and several fish. She hopes to eventually expand to sheep and chickens at their home just west of Weatherford.
Fun fact about your pet: My pets are all special in their own way but particularly my dog, Raven. Raven recovered from distemper as a puppy and despite her growth challenges and neurologic deficits, she's the happiest dog I've ever known. I joke that she is my spirit animal, toothless wonder and ferocious guard dog.
Advice for pet owners: Pick up your socks! If your new pet is a cat: Congratulations, you are now owned.
